EDUCATION
 
Recognizing the importance of education in the modern era, PVDP has been an active force in facilitating and providing basic education in rural areas of NWFP over the past 8 years. There has been significant improvement in education sector, in areas such as Swat, Kohistan, Buner etc, due to the human resource and other expertise of PVDP in the subject. PVDP has also expended its operations in the earth quake affected areas and has been a motivational force in reshaping educational infrastructure with the help of its partners.

Non Formal Education

Non-formal education have played vital role in educating those who have long been ignored in Pakistan particularly in poor and rural areas of the country. Since from 2000 PVDPs NFE program is also focusing on far furlong areas like Kohistan ,Bunner ,Swat

 

PVDP Achievements Under NFE program ( 2000-2007)

  • Establishment of 158 Community Based Schools
  • Enrolment of 9800 children age 5 -9 (70% girls )
  • 90 % of children completed their primary Education.
  • Employment opportunities for 165 local community members particularly for female.
  • Capacity Building of 165 local teachers.
  • Capacity Building 0f 185 Government Teachers.
  • Formation and registration of 158 PTAs.
  • Conversation of 3 CBS in to Government Primary Schools
  • Conversation of 6 CBS in to Private schools
  • Regular support of department of Education.
  • Formation of District Education Center .
  • Formation of Education Support Group at District level.
  • Regular issuance of Quarterly Newsletter “ROSHNI” for Advocacy.
 

Swat Kohistan Education Project (SKEP)

Swat Kohistan Education Project is a part of PVDP regular non formal program in District swat and Kohistan area current project is focusing on education for vulnerable children age 7-14 this non formal education initiative has been implemented from July 2006,in this program NFE Education is characterized by accelerated curriculum students in these non formal schools complete primary education i.e. up to class V ,in three years.

   

Project Objectives:

  • Vulnerable children have improved access to quality education in targeted areas
  • Increased educational opportunity for vulnerable children in targeted areas
  • Improved quality of education for vulnerable children
   

Project Achievements

  • Establishment of 15 community based Schools
  • Enrollment of 534(424 female& 110male) students of age 7-14
  • Sensitization sessions with 675 parents regarding importance of education particularly female education.
  • Formation of 15 PTAs with 120 members and 15 Mother Education Committees with 120 mother members were formed and signed cooperation agreement with PTAs
   

Bunner Girls Education Project:

Following, successful interventions under the Swat-Kohistan Education Programme (SKEP), PVDP plan to replicate its leaning in selected communities of district Buner

   

Project Goal

“To promote building of a just and educated society with improved quality of life through the promotion of quality education for girls in the poor areas of District Buner.”

   
  • Phase-I: (Sep.2004 to Sep. 2005)-one year
  • Phase-II: (Oct.2005 to Feb. 2006)-6-months
  • Phase-III: (March. to Dec. 2006)-3-months
  • Phase IV: (Feb 07 to Dec. 2007 ) -9 months
   

Achievements

  • Establishment of 15 community based schools
  • Enrolment of 841 out of school children , (age 5-7) in four Phases.
  • Formation of 15 PTAs
  • Sensitization of 400 local community members on importance of education particularly on girls education
  • Capacity building of 16 teachers and 160 PTA members on structure & function of PTAs Teaching ,
    management & communication & presentation skills
 
Promotion of Quality Education through Capacity building and Advocacy in formal schools
 
Advocacy and Social mobilization campaign for Quality Education and Increase enrolment
The proposed project contributes to UNICEF “Welcome to School Campaign” in 112 primary schools in 4 selected Union Councils namely Hamsherian, Baffa, Ichriyan, and Datta, of District Mansehra. PVDP has remained involved since December 2005 to motivate communities in these UCs to establish tented schools to facilitate the resumption of educational activities. The project helps the children in these communities to come out of the trauma situation to a normal life. Furthermore the project also helps in reactivating and strengthening the capacity of Parent Teachers Associations and school teachers

  • Capacity building of 100 stakeholders through Alliance Building Workshop
  • 896 members in 112 Mother Education Support Groups trained on HHE
  • Enrollment of 12373 students in govt. primary schools
  • 112 PTAs to discuss & overcome concerned problems of the schools
  • Sensitization of Ulemah on Islamic prospective upon child education especially for girls.
  • Capacity Building of 112 PTCs on Roles and Responsibilities
  • Capacity Building of 112 teachers on Pedagogy, CRC and Roles and responsibilities
 
Improve access and quality of primary education through capacity building in formal schools
PVDP having a vast practical experience in Education and Social and development sectors come forward to implement the proposed project in connection with UNICEF In three Union Councils (Khilana, Ghari Doppata and Lamnian) of District Muzaffarabad. The proposed Advocacy, Social Mobilization and Capacity Building initiatives would contribute to UNICEF “Welcome to School Campaign” in 53 primary Schools in three selected UCs
   
Project objective  
“To activate 53 Schools and provide Education to Earthquake affected students in Union Councils Khilana, Ghari Doppta and Lamnian of District Muzaffarabad”
 
Achievements
  • Enrollment of 567 out of school children in schools.
  • 153 School Management Committee s have been reformed/ restructured.
  • Capacity Building of 107 teachers from 53 schools on child friendly environment for learning
  • 152 members trained from 53 SMCs.
  • Sensitization of 150 students and their parents on Importance of education and hygiene promotion .
  • For insurance of attendance 27 tents have been installed in 25 schools and about 40 tents have been maintained/ repaired to protect the students from severe weather condition
