The North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) is the poorer strata of the country and thus more vulnerable to health as
well as sexual and reproductive issues. PVDP having extensive experience and history of work in the sectors of
Reproductive/Primary health Care has undertaken several sustainable health projects within the rural and urban
communities of NWFP.

Mother Child Health project in Balakot
This project has been initiated with respect to improve health service delivery at households level in four selected union councils
i.e. Mahandri, Kewai, Ghanol and Kaghan of District Mansehra through Community Health Workers, working simultaneously
with Lady Health Workers in their designated areas, with the support of UNICEF Pakistan.
Project Objective
To reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rate in 4 selected UCs Tehsil Balakot District Mansehra
Major Achievements
107 CHWs and 11 CHSs have been recruited and oriented on their role & responsibilities Facilitate un covered
population of 4 Ucs.
10577 families have been so far registered for health services through recruted CHWs .
35364 soaps, 570 Bad nets, 5 cottons of ORS, 60 oil stave and 57 emergency lights have been distributed so far in deserving
communities.
3000 community members sensitized through proposed activities and Health Committees
20 students have been trained as PEER Educators and they so far took 42 sessions on HHE with
1800 fellow students at their respective schools

Project Objectives
To provide essential health services through community health workers to uncovered areas

Major Achievements:
2888 children were vaccinated during 2 polio campaigns
29120 persons have been aware in 1940 Health Hygiene sessions with household
and also vaccinated BCG, DPT, Measles and TT (15-45 years women)
PVDP recruited CHWs referred 385 general patients to the BHUs in 4 selected UCs
Above 200 Ante Natal women had been referred to the BHUs for check up and TT
Vaccine by PVDP trained health workrs.
12 health committees formed and 9 HC meetings conducted
12 Mother support groups formed and Capacity of 84 Women Members Build on Importance EPI & Health Related Issues
Sensitization of 93 Nazim, counselors Social Workers Media People & Paramedics on Importance of

Outcome 1:

and mobilization on HIV issues along with promotion of risk avoidance

Communities have better access to information on prevention and
transmission of HIV as well as care and support
Facilitate sustainable behavioral change regarding HIV/AIDS and STIs in six selected Madaris of Peshawar city
Education in madaris is focused on religion only so the students have no facilities to get access to
information outside the four walls of madaris and for a simply reason of having no access to
holistic information they are vulnerable.
Project objective
To reduce HIV transmission and therefore prevent a generalize epidemic, and to enhance the
quality of life of vulnerable groups
Major Achievements
Registration of 406 youth Madaris(male & Female) with BHC
54 clients have been identified as STIs patients
30 peer educator have been trained as master trainer on HIV/AIDS and STIs
55 sensitization sessions are conducted with 670 students of Madaris
Formal referral system has also been established among LRH, KTH and HMC
50 students have been referred for further treatment in which 25 patients from selected Madaris have got HIV test
Conduction of Pre-KAP study by Dr. Nadeem
600 male & female students oriented on HIV/AIDS through seminars and competitions
2484 IEC material has been so far distributed among Madaris youth
700 people sensitized in 6 Friday sermons
